“Vivid Expression”: Four Artists Unite Diverse Expressions at Biji Art Space

Ubud, The Bali Herald - Biji Art Space is once again the stage for a prestigious art event with the group exhibition entitled ‘Vivid Expression’. The exhibition is officially open to the public from 28 September to 16 October 2025.

The exhibition features works by four artists with unique backgrounds and styles: Ida Bagus Sindhu Putra, Gusti Wis, Bung Tiok, and Suliyat Buamar. The four are brought together under the curatorial direction of Alimuddin Taufiq, who emphasises how art is a true reflection of human emotions.

According to the exhibition curator, Alimuddin Taufiq, the exhibition stems from the idea that an artist's mind works like a prism that breaks reality into various unique perspectives. "Their works become mirrors, in which there are real expressions of our emotions. A beautiful medium where our unspoken thoughts are manifested in a range of colours, lines, and compositions," said Alimuddin in his curatorial statement (28/10).

Each artist brings their own interpretation of the theme ‘Vivid Expression’:

Bung Tiok presents magical realism on canvas, blurring the boundaries between the real and the surreal. His work is a harmonious blend of nature, humanity, and culture, evoking an awareness of our place in an interconnected life.

Ida Bagus Sindhu Putra (IBK Sindu) explores the idea of humanity's position in the wheel of time. His work is a reflection of personal memory and collective nostalgia, visualised through his signature technique of crumpled paper, serving as a reminder of the fragility of fleeting memories.

Gusti Wis delves deeper into human relationships. His works, which resemble a labyrinth of lines and colours, are a reflection of the complexity of the human soul and mind, as unique as fingerprints.

Meanwhile, Suliyat Buamar's expressions highlight courage and simplicity. Emotions find their strongest form in bold strokes of colour and contrast, which he pours into his works.

Alimuddin adds that this exhibition is more than just a space filled with paintings; it is a ‘gallery of shared feelings’ and a ‘shared emotional conversation’. The differences in each artist's style are actually a strength, because emotions can be clearly expressed through any medium and style.

Quoting Shakespeare's famous line, ‘What's in a name?’, Alimuddin emphasised that ultimately, the essence conveyed by each work will remain powerful regardless of the style that envelops it.
